A theft victim has helped Police recover a cache of stolen items and make an arrest after tracking his belongings to a south Auckland address.
Police say the man reported several items stolen from his vehicle in Pakuranga before later providing key information that led officers to a property in Māngere Bridge.
Counties Manukau West Area Commander, Inspector Dave Christoffersen, said one of the stolen items had a GPS tracker, allowing the victim to trace it to an address on Tima Lane.
“Units were in the area at the time and met with the victim, who had observed his items inside the address,” he said.
A search of the property uncovered multiple tools and stolen items, including a nail gun linked via GPS.
“This led to one person at the address being arrested and charged with receiving,” Inspector Christoffersen said.
Police were able to recover several items and return them to their Pakuranga owner.
Inspector Christoffersen praised the victim and wider community for their role in the outcome.
“This is a great example of members of the public reporting incidents when they happen, then following up with any helpful information that comes to hand,” he said.
A 37-year-old man has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Manukau District Court charged with receiving stolen property.
