Further charges have been laid as part of Operation Beverly, the long-running investigation into alleged historical sexual offending at Auckland’s Dilworth School.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greaves of Auckland City CIB confirmed that a 72-year-old man has been charged with three counts of indecency with a boy between 12 and 16 years old. The charges relate to new allegations uncovered during the ongoing inquiry.
The man is due to appear in the Auckland District Court on Wednesday.
Operation Beverly was launched in 2020, following a series of reports of sexual abuse involving former students of the prestigious all-boys boarding school. Since then, multiple former staff and associates of the school have been charged, with several convicted and sentenced for offending spanning from the 1970s through to the 2000s.
Police say the latest charges reflect the continuing nature of the investigation and their commitment to supporting survivors and holding offenders to account.
“Investigators working on Operation Beverly have spoken with a number of former students who have been identified as being victims of sexual abuse while at the school,” Detective Senior Sergeant Greaves said.
“To date, we have spoken with more than 150 former students, but we still encourage anyone with information who hasn’t yet come forward to contact Police.”
Anyone wishing to provide information can contact Police online or call 105, quoting Operation Beverly. Information can also be given anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
Dilworth School, founded in 1906, is one of New Zealand’s oldest private educational institutions. The revelations of abuse have had a profound impact on the school community and have prompted a major cultural and governance overhaul aimed at improving student welfare and transparency.
Police say Operation Beverly remains active as further complaints are assessed and additional evidence is reviewed.
