Police have confirmed the identities of the two people who died in a fatal house fire in Bucklands Beach earlier this month.
They were Jung Sup Lee, 36, and Ha-il Lee, 11, both of Bucklands Beach.
Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Va’aelua of Counties Manukau CIB says the fire, which broke out on Murvale Drive around 2.30am on Thursday, 2 October, is being treated as a double homicide.
“Our thoughts and sympathies remain with the family at this difficult time,” he said. “This is a tragic event that has deeply affected the local community.”
Police are appealing for the public’s help to identify those responsible. Residents in Bucklands Beach, Howick, Sunnyhills, Mellons Bay, Botany Downs, and Highland Park are urged to check their CCTV, dashcam, or GoPro footage from between 10pm on Wednesday, 1 October, and 5am on Thursday, 2 October.
“No detail is too small or irrelevant,” Detective Inspector Va’aelua said.
Police have established an online portal, Operation Town, where people can upload footage for investigators to review: https://town.nc3.govt.nz/.
