Police have arrested two men following an alleged early-morning break-in at a vacant restaurant on Beach Road.
The incident occurred at about 2.47am, when a nearby security guard spotted two people inside the premises and called 111.
Auckland City Police Senior Sergeant Tony Turner said officers responded immediately.
“Officers quickly arrived and located one man carrying a black suitcase filled with property,” he said. “A search of the building then located another man attempting to hide from Police.”
Senior Sergeant Turner praised both the swift police response and the actions of the security guard.
“I commend our Police staff who flooded the area quickly and located these offenders. I also want to extend our thanks to the security guard who observed suspicious behaviour and reported it to Police straight away, enabling the quick apprehension of the two men,” he said.
Two men, aged 58 and 46, are due to appear in Auckland District Court today charged with burglary.
