Police Intercept Alleged E-Scooter Thief After Morningside Break-In

Quick action by Police led to the arrest of an alleged thief early Thursday morning after a break-in at a warehouse in Morningside.

At around 3am, two offenders arrived at a Taylors Road property in a van, which was used to ram through the warehouse’s roller doors, causing enough damage to gain entry.

According to Inspector Wayne Kitcher, Auckland City West Area Prevention Manager, both offenders entered the building and took several large boxes containing e-scooters before fleeing the scene.

Shortly afterwards, Police located a man allegedly transferring the stolen e-scooter boxes into a different vehicle just minutes from the warehouse. The boxes matched those taken in the burglary.

“The original vehicle used in the break-in was later found hidden nearby, only a few hundred metres from where the man was apprehended,” Inspector Kitcher said.

“This was a great result by our staff, who acted quickly to prevent these offenders from profiting from their criminal actions.”

Police confirmed a 37-year-old man appeared in Auckland District Court charged with receiving stolen property. Enquiries are ongoing to locate the second offender.

Inspector Kitcher noted that while ram raids have declined in recent years, Police remain committed to prosecuting such offences.
